Graceful Barn Owl by Neutron2K Graceful Barn Owl by Neutron2K
A Barn Owl sits gracefully on its perch in the cafe at the British Wildlife Centre. This isn't a shot that I would usually take but the colours in the background made it for me.

I was very unhappy with the fact that they allow people to stroke the owls which removes their natural oil from their feathers. The birds arn't flown (which is the main purpose of the oil - to assist their flight), but they still shouldn't be stroked imo.

O My Gosh!! He is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love England. I thought Barn Owls didn't have those oils? The oils also help birds fly in the rain, right? Well, most can. Barns can't because of those softer feathers for silent flight. If Barns had those oils, wouldn't the softer feathers become oily and useless? Just asking. All the white on his breast feathers is giving me snow blindness 0.0

Beautiful shot.
And interesting fact about the oils on their feathers, Thank you for pointing that out, I know now for whenever the opportunity arises to pet them, and to choose otherwise.

Lovely shot and what a beautiful owl! Although owls (at least barn owls) don't actually have oil on their feathers. That's why they can't fly very well in the rain. So the petting shouldn't be a problem. However, it could be stressing them out, and you definitely don't want stressed owls snapping and attacking some yokel in a cafe who decided to mess with it. That wouldn't be good...=\

no i'm serious mate. Your pointless remarks are starting to wind me up. I'd already acknowledged that i'd rather shoot them in the wild but that doesn't mean I don't want to snap captured birds, it just means i have a preference lol

Sorry mate i'm very over worked and stressed this week.
