This photo stood out to me amongst numerous other deviations. The lighting balance in the sky and sea are equalised and striking. The only thing I personally would have changed is to increase the brightness in the underwater area to bring out the rocks slightly. It looks as if a polarizer could have been used, but if one wasn't I would have as this would have cut out some more reflections and given more detail to the rocks.
I could be completely wrong of course as the picture looks equally as good with the milky effect of the sea. I suppose every person will have their own taste. Most often when I see milky sea photo's, the whole sea is milky with no reflections, making the sea and clouds equal in texture.
One last point, and it is probably quite anal, some detail has been lost on the cliffs and dark sides of the rocks on the left due to the dark areas. Again, I may be wrong on this as it could be intentional.
no way man! Get out there every morning and evening when the weather looks promising. Its 1am now and i'm heading out at 2.30am to drive 100 miles for a sunrise! (alltough I havn't even checked on the weather yet - doh!)
Well thanks for the encouragement, but I still don't know how to get anything close to what you continually show us. I can never tell what's promising until it's too late. I also don't live near any amazing bodies of water so I don't know what to do about the actual composition.
I will go buy an ND filter and study my local map for possible spots to shoot. Would you do me a favor and let me know how to read the weather? Or could you direct me to a link of some explanation online? That would be very helpful. Thanks.
